Eric's ACC Predictions Week 6

Last week was a tough week.  I went 5 and 3.  What is up with Georgia Tech?  Man that wasn't pretty.  They used to dominate with their running attack. It really makes Virginia Tech's win against them not mean much now.  I flipped a coin on the Hokie game so it wasn't a surprise that they lost.  They did look terrible again.  The N.C. State game was really wishful thinking.  I wanted Miami to lose because they are in our division.  Oh well....  I did get the DUKE game right!  Duke is 4 and 1!  They have a really great chance to make a bowl game this year!  That being said lets get to this week's picks:

Last week: 5-3  Total:  40-8

Boston College vs. Army: Army has not looked good at all this year.  Boston College is playing well.  They haven't won recently but they have hung with a couple of teams.  I think that Boston College will play well enough to win this game so I am going with Boston College.  My pick is Boston College.

Virginia vs. Duke:  Virginia has been really disappointing this year. They showed some promise in the first half last week but then got blown out of the water.  They did however put up almost 600 yards of offense in that game.  Duke played a tough game against Wake and may have lost their starting quarterback for a awhile. I still have this feeling that this is a special year for Duke football.  WE ARE DUKE!!  My pick this week is Duke.

Wake Forest vs. Maryland:  Wake lost their star receiver Campanaro against Duke last week.  He will be out for this game but luckily doesn't need surgery.  Maryland has played well against some tough opponents and has looked good at times.  I still think Wake is the better team and will win this game.  My pick is Wake Forest. Recently Wake has suspended 6 players from the team.  This as well as the starting wide reciever being out has forced me to rethink my pick.  My pick is Maryland. 10/5/12 change.

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech:  I think this game will be close even tough Georgia Tech has not played well this year.  If they can control the clock for most of the game through their running attack the could win the game.  However I think Clemson is too strong.  The will come out throwing and running and the Georgia Tech defense won't know what hit them.  My pick is Clemson.

Florida State vs. NC State:  I so badly wanted NC State to play well last week and come up with a win.  Unfortunately that didn't happen.  They did not look good at all with all the turnovers they had.  I think they can keep it close against Florida State and this is one of the two ACC games left on Florida State's schedule that I think they can lose.  Overall I think Florida State is the better school and they will win the game.  My pick is Florida State.

Notre Dame vs. Miami:  This is a really interesting game. I think Miami has a real shot to win this game and get a big upset.  Is the U for real this year?  I can't decide.  Notre Dame has played really well this year and is ranked in the top 10.  I just have this feeling about this game.  Although my head says stick with the for sure winner and take Notre Dame. My heart says Miami.  So I think I will go with my heart.  My pick is Miami.

Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina:  Wow the Hokies did not look good in the 1st half last week.  I think we had like 27 yards of total offense in the first quarter.  I don't see much changing unless a fire has been lit under them after last week's loss.  I have seen North Carolina play this year and I think they are going to score a lot in this game.  Although I will be in attendance and will be donning my Orange and Maroon, I still don't like our chances.  My pick is North Carolina.  Come on Hokies show me something!!!!!

Let's see what happens week 6!

Eric's ACC Week 5 Predictions

Well I had a good week except that Georgia Tech let me down.  They had that game won too and gave it away.  Oh well, another week another prediction!  Here we go with week 5.

Last week: 8-1     Total:  35-5

Idaho vs. North Carolina:  This should be a no brainier. Idaho got killed last week by Nebraska.  Now North Carolina is no Nebraska but I think this should be a one sided affair with Gio making it into the endzone a couple of times on Saturday.  My pick is North Carolina.

Middle Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech:  It is time for some revenge for a loss last week.  It won't be pretty and Georgia Tech will be running the ball all over the field.  My pick is Georgia Tech.

North Carolina State vs. Miami:  This is a tough one.  Miami looked really good last week verses Georgia Tech.  North Carolina State has been on a role the last couple of games.  I don't think Miami is better than Tennessee and I thought that State could beat Tennessee.  I think they will semi upset Miami and win this game.  My pick is North Carolina State.

Duke vs. Wake Forest:  I think that this game will also be considered an upset win.  Wake beat North Carolina but then has lost two games.  Duke's only really opponent so far this year was Stanford and they got killed by Stanford.  However I like Duke's offense and I think they will get a win this week.  My pick is Duke.

17 Clemson vs. Boston College:  I don't think I would want to play for Boston College this week.  It could be really messy.  I am not sure what the final score will be but I think Clemson will be pumped up after losing to Florida State.  My pick this week is Clemson.

Louisiana Tech vs. Virginia:  This is not the Virginia of last year that played really well.  In fact they don't look very good at all this year.  Normally I wouldn't chose them to lose to Louisiana Tech but this year LT is the better football team.  My pick is Louisiana Tech.

4 Florida State vs. South Florida: I think that Florida State is going to win out this year and end the year with an undefeated season and a chance to play for the national title.  That being said if they don't have a let down, they should cruise by South Florida.  My pick is Florida State

Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati:  This is such a hard game to pick.  I am not sure what is going to happen and which Hokie team is going to show up. If the past means anything the Hokies should win the rest of their games this year.  I don't think that is going to happen.  Cincinnati is a good team and doesn't match up well with the Hokies.  I literally flipped a coin on this one and it came up heads.  My pick is Virginia Tech.

Eric's Acc Week 4 Predictions

Well it was a bad week to be a Hokie.  The only game I missed  was my Hokies.  I think it is going to be a long year and I am not sure how we are going to rebound from this game.  It is the same old story just a different year.  It is sad to say but the Hokies are never going to win a national championship under Frank Beamer.  It's a shame but he just can't lead them to that level and the offense is awful.  Sorry Frank.  I have a lot of respect for you but you just can't get it done.

So now for this week's picks:

So far I am 27-4 on the year.  Let's see what happens this week:

Virginia Tech vs. Bowling Green: Well normally this would be an easy win for Virginia Tech but I am not so sure now.  I don't know what is going to happen.  I wonder if the defense will show up this week and if Logan Thomas can not be a  Fig Newton and instead be Cam Newton this week. It's scary but I am going to stick with Virginia Tech this week.  So my pick is Virginia Tech.

Maryland vs. #8 West Virginia:  I don't think that Maryland can win this game.  They have been impressive for what they have to put on the field this year, but they lost to Northwestern last week and they will lose to West Virginia by a lot.  My pick is West Virginia.

Virgina vs. #17 TCU:  Virginia got blown away by Georgia Tech last week and it wasn't pretty.  TCU is even better than Georgia Tech.  I don't think they will get beaten so badly but I think they will lose to TCU.  My pick this week is TCU.

Army vs. Wake Forest: Wake Forest was taken behind the wood shed last week by Florida State.  It was UGLY.  I lost by less in my fantasy football league the first week and trust me that isn't saying a lot!  I think they get back to winning this week and they beat Army.  My pick is Army.

Miami vs. Georgia Tech: Both teams won big last week.  Georgia Tech brings an offense that is hard to defend into this game.  Miami is still trying to find themselves so you don't know which team will show up.  The one that won last week or the one that got killed by Kansas State.  My pick this week is Georgia Tech.

East Carolina vs. North Carolina:  This will be an interesting game.  ECU is always tough.  This game could be close.  I am not sure which UNC team will show up but hopefully the one that almost beat Louisville shows up.  I hope that Bernard will be able to play.  If he does it won't be close.  I still believe that UNC will win the game.  My choice is UNC.

Memphis vs. Duke:  Duke got another win last week.  Hopefully this will be number 3.  Duke has been good in both wins and bad in the Stanford game.  Memphis hasn't won a game yet this year.  We will see what happens on Saturday but I think that Duke can pull out another win.  My pick is Duke.

Citadel vs. NC State:  This should be a good game.  Citadel is playing really well this year and is 3 and 0 on the year.  NC State has won 2 in a row and looks better but still has a some questions.  I think they will put it together enough to win this game but don't be surprised if the Citadel wins.  My pick is NC State.

#10 Clemson vs. #4 Florida State: This is by far the best game of the week and probably the best game of the ACC season.  Florida State looks like the real deal but Clemson looks like the real deal too so this game could go either way and should be so much fun to watch.  I think that even though Florida State has not won these type of games the past couple of years I think this is their year and I hope that they will win the National Championship.  My pick for this game is Florida State.

Logan Thomas = Fig Newton not Cam Newton

Logan Thomas looked awful today.  I can't believe how bad the entire team has played.  This is a team lost but Logan has 3  interceptions and can't throw a pass to save his life.  They should of never been ranked so high because now they will fall out of the top 25.  I am so tired of seeing them ranked so high and making it look like they are going to have a good year and they suck.

=

A loss is a loss but this was ugly.

I am so fed up with thinking they can hang with the top dogs in college football. It is obvious that the media hypes up Virginia Tech every year and they end up disappointing the fan base.

Is it time for some changes on the coaching staff?

Eric ACC Week 3 Predictions

We are already through week 2 of the college football season.  It's funny how you want each Saturday to come so fast so that you can watch college football but before you know it the season will be over.

As we enter week 3, I am doing pretty well with only a 3 losses.  Both losses this past week really shocked me.  Maryland played really well and showed that there is still some fight in them there turtles!  Unfortunately the high powered North Carolina offense fizzled and lost to Wake Forest.  I guess that can happen any given Saturday!  Well now on to me picks for week 3.

 Last week:  9-2       Overall   18- 3

Bethune-Cookman vs. Miami:  Miami looked awful last week against Kansas State.  I thought they were headed back to the glory days of football but I guess I was wrong.  However if they have problems with Bethune-Cookman this week then the ACC has issues overall and we are in trouble as a conference.  My pick is Miami by a lot!

Wake Forest vs. #5 Florida State:  This has all the makings of an upset.  Wake Forest is coming off an emotional high energy win against North Carolina and Florida State has played two cup cake opponents.  It could be really interesting and Wake Forest could shock Florida State.  I have been on the fence but I believe that Florida State will pull it out.  My pick is Florida State.

Connecticut vs.  Maryland:  Connecticut just lost to NC State in a very low scoring game that really was not fun to watch.  Maryland really showed up against Temple but did have to hold on in the end.  I think this game could be interesting but I think that Connecticut will get it done against Maryland.  Hopefully Maryland will surprise me again and win this game but we will see what happens.  My pick is Connecticut.

Furman vs. #11 Clemson:  Sammy Watkins is back in the house and will have a huge game against Furman.  Clemson is playing really well right now and there will be some huge fun football games in the near future but for right now, Clemson will slaughter Furman.  My pick is Clemson.

Virginia vs. Georgia Tech:  Now this should be a good football game.  Virginia is playing well and coming off an exciting win against Penn State (which they should of lost).  Georgia Tech rebounded from the lost to Virginia Tech with an easy win.  I think this comes down to the running game and that goes to Georgia Tech.  My pick is Georgia Tech.

Boston College vs. Northwestern:  Northwestern has won two games Syracuse and Vanderbilt.  Boston College has only beaten Maine although they gave Miami a run for its money and led most of that game.
This is a tough one to call but I think that Northwestern is the stronger team.  My choice is Northwestern

North Carolina vs.#19 Louisville:  This is a tough one to call.  I think that Renner was more hurt last week then they were letting on.  He took a hard hit and wasn't the same after that.  Louisville is a strong team with wins against Kentucky and Missouri State.  My heart tells me one thing and my head tells me another.  This game to me comes down to weather Gio Bernard plays.  If he does I think Carolina wins, if he doesn't then they could loss.  My choice as of right now is North Carolina with the upset.  It may change between now and Saturday. UPDATE: 9/15/12 8:15 am:  After finding out that Gio Bernard will not travel with the team, I am not feeling very confident about this game now. I hate to do it but I have to chance my pick based on the injury.  My pick for today's game is Louisville.  Sorry my Carolina fans.

South Alabama vs. N.C. State:  N.C. State hasn't looked good so far this year and they are not playing well.  Their offense looks like Virginia Tech's, non existent.  It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the year.  I think for now N.C. State is safe.  I would like to see them put up a lot of points this game.  My pick is N.C. State.

N.C. Central vs. Duke:  Duke got killed last week in a game I thought would of been closer.  I don't know what the deal is with Duke. We will see what happens for the rest of the year.  I think they will want win and will play hard.  My pick is Duke

#13 Virginia Tech vs Pittsburgh:  I am tired of hearing in the preseason how good Tech is going to look and then they come out, win games but look ugly why doing it.  I hope they do some quick offense against Pittsburgh this week because that is when they look their best.  I think we win but I hope we put some points on the board.  My pick is Virginia Tech.

Eric's Week 2 ACC Predictions

I had a really great first week.  My only blimpish was that NC State didn't bother to show up against Tennessee.  I listened to all the hype in Raleigh and went with the wolfpack and they played like Virginia Tech for much of their game.  I am hoping that they gather themselves and come out ready to win this week.

Eric's Record:   9-1

Here are my projections for week 2

NC State vs Connecticut:  I was burned by State last week but I did see some good things.  Amerson was burned like crazy but I don't see that happening against Connecticut.  I think that NC State will come out and put some points on the board.  My pick is NC State.

Maryland vs Temple:  Wow Maryland barely won last week and from what I have read didn't look very good at all.  I think they are going to have their hands full with Temple.  Although I hate for an ACC team to lose an out of conference game and especially a game to Temple, I think Maryland is in trouble.  My pick this week is Temple although I will be happy if Maryland can find a way to pull it out.

Penn State vs Virginia:  I hate it for Penn State.  After losing to Ohio last week they now have to play a very hot and well coached Virginia team.  Virginia is a scary team this year based on last year's success.  I believe that Virginia will beat Penn State although I believe Penn State will give them a run for their money.  My pick is Virginia.

Miami vs (#21) Kansas State:  Miami made a good comeback against Kansas State.  Kansas State put a hurting on their opponent during week 1.  They are rolling and will come into this game with a lot of confidence.  I hope that Miami can pull it out and make the ACC look good but I don't think they will be able to beat Kansas State.  My pick is Kansas State.

Ball State vs (#14) Clemson:  This is one of those week one games that doesn't need to be analyzed.  My pick is Clemson by A LOT!

Maine vs Boston College:  Boston College played a very good game last week and deserved to win versus Miami.  I think Boston College is looking much better this year and I think they are moving upward.  This may be wrong and they just had a good game last week.  I don't think they will have trouble with Maine.  My pick is Boston College.

North Carolina UNC vs Wake Forest: I went to the UNC game last week and they looked really good!  I can't wait to watch this game because I think it will be a good game and a great indicator of what UNC is going to look like this year.  Wake Forest has a great coach but they haven't been able to put together a good season in a couple of years.  My pick for this game is UNC.

Savannah State vs #6 Florida State:  Really?  My pick is Florida State.

Presbyterian vs Georgia Tech:  Tough loss for them Monday night.  They should of beat us.  I think they will gather themselves up get things moving and put a hurting on Presbyterian.  My pick is Georgia Tech.

Duke vs #25 Stanford:  I was really impressed by Duke this past week even though they played a Division 2 school.  I so badly want to put down an upset pick for this game but I think that Stanford is just too good for Duke and I don't think they will pull off the upset.  My pick is Stanford but I may change that before Saturday if I keep getting this feeling that I have.  We shall see.

#15 Virginia Tech vs Austin Peay:  Man they scared me last week.  Logan Thomas was way off on his passes and looked bad for much of the game.  It was very frustrating especially with everyone talking about how good he is.  He needs to get his timing down and come out and put a hurting on Austin Peay this week.  If this game is close I will be really scared for my Hokies for the rest of the ACC schedule.  My pick is Virginia Tech.

Winner...Winner....Turkey Dinner!

Well after watching that game last night I needed a shower.  I was sweating and yelling during the fourth quarter of that game.  It was an exciting finish and put the other 2 and a half hours of football I just watched to shame.  As my brother put it to me in a face book post, "This game is boring."  He was right.  It was really boring and unfortunately the type of game that Virginia Tech ends up losing.

Logan Thomas looked really bad through 3 quarters.  They say he has Heisman potential.  I am sorry but I didn't see it last night that is until the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter he made some excellent throws.  I will give him credit there, in the clutch, Logan can really play some football.  He doesn't panic, he just goes out and does what needs to be done.

A lot of people said they didn't see much from the running backs.  I disagree.  I thought that when they were given the chance they did an awesome job running the ball.  I feel like we went away from it for a little while and then came back to it.  When we needed the running game it came through for us and we won the game.

The kicking game was overall good.  We had a missed field goal and a botched punt but overall it was really good.  It won us the game, that's about all I can say.

So these were just some thoughts and feelings about the first game of the year.  I hope that we are able to learn from our mistakes and go out there and beat the living tar out of Austin Peay!

Let's Go Hokies!
